A thriving hun civilization on Mars civilization will lead to new scientific breakthroughs and discoveries. Data will be gathered through various means with the goal of progressing scientific research. Much of this will be transmitted back to Earth via Communication Arrays to be crunched by powerful supercomputers, but any resulting discovery will be credited where it is due. With so few resources available to the astronauts and so much expected of them, necessity will certainly become the mother of invention, and some of these inventions could directly assist the colony, or be worth a fortune back on Earth.
